Like so many things in life, Andreas’ involvement in DHAC began as a coincidence. As lecturer for harpsichord, figured bass, and accompaniment at Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg - a post he held from 2016-2021 - he just so happened to accompany students participating in masterclasses given by Jedediah Wentz, who just so happened to also offer an introduction into historical gesture, which just so happened to provide some answers to one of the questions weighing heavily on Andreas’ mind at the time: “With everyone going on about baroque music needing to be performed rhetorically - what actually was the baroque concept of a “rhetorical performance”?” The rest, as they say, is history.
Since joining DHAC, Andreas’ work on historical rhetoric has shifted from merely supplementing his understanding of early music to being a field of research, experimentation, and performance which is independent of - though still intersecting with - his musical activities.
