Lucía Caihuela is a Spanish mezzo-soprano specialised in early music and historical performance practice, and with a special interest in staged music and theatre. She studied singing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she came across historical acting for the first time. Inspired by this encounter with baroque gesture, declamation and historical acting treatises, Lucía wrote her master's research on how to physically connect singing with emotion, in order to achieve a more integrated and convincing performance on stage as a singer-actress. She is currrently researching different ways of bringing singing and acting closer together, and developing specific exercises for classical singers for this purpose.
